Music in Worship

Organ 2
“Next to the Word of God, music deserves the highest praise. The gift of language combined with the gift of song was given to man that he should proclaim the Word of God through Music.” - Martin Luther

Worship brings us into God's presence and brings us into communion with Him. There are many ways to praise God through music. Whether its singing, ringing, playing or listening, we are all involved in music during worship. If you sing in the choir or just sing the hymns, you are sharing in one of God's greatest gifts to us -- music. Take a moment to follow your heart and listen to its music... what is it calling you to do?

Music is an integral part of our worship and ministry at Good Shepherd. Teresa Ratkowski, our Organist and Choir Director, joyfully leads an adult choir, and a handbell choir. Children add to the worship on special occasions with songs they learn in Sunday School. Special music is also provided by instrumentalists and soloists our congregation has been blessed with and our Christmas and Easter Festival services are joined by brass ensembles. In the past our choir has performed concert music during Holy Week including "The Seven Last Word of Christ" by Theodore Dubois. On occasion both our voice and handbell choirs have joined with other churches at local ecumenical services and performances.

The Senior Choir sings on most Sundays at the 10:15AM worship service and adds its voice to special occasion services. It meets on Wednesday evenings from 8:00PM to 9:00PM in the choir loft of the church from September through June.  Directed by Teresa Ratkowski.  They work hard and sing all kinds of choral music and have fun, too!  Our choir is open to any and all who like to sing and would like to add to our worship experience. Most of the anthems we sing are easy to learn but we also take on some challenges. We are always seeking new voices to join us to replace members who have moved away, passed away, or have been unable to continue with us for other reasons. If you have interest, even if you don't think you sing well enough to be part of a choir, come and join us. Our choir always have room for new singers -- young or old, bass or alto, tenor or soprano!  No experience required...just a love of singing!
Please speak to Teresa or any member of the choir for additional information.

The Handbell Choir meets on Wednesday  evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 in the church from September to June except for the weeks during Advent and Lent.   Directed by Teresa Ratkowski. We are a combination of new and experienced ringers, playing 4 octaves of bells.  We usually play for worship one Sunday a month and for festival services. Handbells are great fun and great exercise! Having lost some members to the call of higher education we are seeking new adults and teens to join us.  If you think you might enjoy contributing to this unique form of music and help add to the worship life of the congregation speak to Teresa or any member of the handbell choir for additional information.
